Bentonite is a vital component of geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs), ensuring that the liner maintains extremely low permeability in water-rich geological conditions. Bentonite binds with water molecules to form a complex structure, thereby enhancing the water-blocking function of the liner. These liners have been successfully applied in the construction of landfill sites, canals, reservoir linings, anti-pollution barriers for airport runways and highways, as well as other barrier facilities.
A geosynthetic clay liner is constructed by placing bentonite between two layers of geotextiles, where either one or both layers can be nonwoven fabrics. Needle punching is used to effectively lock the bentonite layer in place. Since bentonite is abrasive, the resulting wear on the needles must be taken into consideration. Additionally, the barbs must not be too large to avoid damaging the encapsulating nonwoven fabric.
DOER specialized needles for geosynthetic clay liner production have been widely recognized by numerous manufacturers.
